For Bayler…

This is a follow-up to the blog I wrote earlier today about South Carolina playing for a young man.

The South Carolina Gamecocks claimed the National Championship at the College World Series. The team will forever stand as the final champion at Rosenblatt Stadium. With the “Greatest Show On Dirt” moving to a new home in 2011, this CWS was filled with emotion. To make it even more emotional, South Carolina was playing for more than themselves, more than a University and more than the record books they will forever be in. The Gamecocks were playing this one for Bayler.

Bayler Teal is a 7-year old boy who passed away on Thursday. He had a rare form of cancer called Neauroblastoma. The young man met the team a long time ago and has been one of their biggest fans. When Michael Roth took the mound for his first start of the season on Friday he dedicated the performance to Bayler. They won. Again the team dedicated the championship series to Bayler. The team wrote the letters “BT” on their hats in memory of the young man.

Bayler’s family was able to mkae it to the championship series. What a way to win it…for a young man, a family. It’s a story that has become a hit everywhere. On Twitter a special hashtag exploded with tweets…. #winitforBayler.

After the players received their individual awards on home plate, USC Head Coach Ray Tanner addressed the crowd. He thanked the SC fans that made the trip to Omaha. He thanked UCLA for being a class act and the “toughest team we’ve played all year.” But before he closed he spoke of young Bayler. He talked about how he was with the team for a long time before he closed with….

“Hes gone to a greater place now, but i am assured hes watching down on us right now and smiling”
